Heir

Being an Heir is mainly just doing your own thing. While everyone else is running around screaming and panicking, you’re taking a five hour nap in the sun. While other people stress out about exams right before finals, you may have just finished your Avatar: the Last Airbender marathon with next to no worries. Many people underestimate Heirs in this way. Because it doesn’t seem like you’re doing what you’re supposed to be doing, people assume you’re not trying at all when really, you’re just tackling the problem with your own unorthodox way.

And it’s also listening to the people that matter to you. If someone that you really cared about told you to do something, you’d get all over it. If the person who mattered most to you told you to jump into a 15 foot deep pool even though you can’t swim, you’d be buckling up with a diving board, ready to jump before they even finished their sentence. You might not show it very well, it might not be very clear that you were going to do what they said, and they might even doubt the fact that you were going to do it, but you’d eventually do it.

And this can lead to some bad things in an unhealthy Heir. You’ll go out of your way to please the people that matter to you. You’ll bend yourself out of shape, you’ll get screwed over a lot, and you’ll get hurt constantly, but you’ll feel good about it because you made them happy.

Being an Heir is being off in your world. Sometimes, you can get stuck in there for a while. At that point, someone who cares about you will try and pull you out, and you’ll wave them off with “Don’t worry! I’ll be fine!” And they’ll leave begrudgingly. They’ll try to pull you out again a little later, but you’ll still be wrapped up in your things, so you’ll make them leave again. This may keep happening until they stop one day, maybe having given up on you because they feel like don’t matter to you. But you won’t notice it until finally, you finish up and leave your little world. You shout “I’m done!” and start to look for them before realizing “Oh. They’re gone. I drove them away.”

But maybe you have someone who didn’t give up on you, and you’ll give up on your world before finishing and let them pull you out. And you’ll grin at them and they’ll smile back at you and you’ll get that funny feeling in your chest that’s really warm and always threatens to burst out and make you smile for days on end. And you’ll be glad that you gave them a chance and didn’t just focus on only you and your world.

The Heir’s challenge is to find the right balance between themselves and other people. Pay as much attention to others as you spend doing your own things, and make sure you also take care of yourself when helping and doing things for other people. Find the perfect balance, and your life will be that much better. You’ll be glad that you didn’t just focus on only you and your world.
