Mother Teresa was a lot like Ghandhi, in that they saw suffering as a beautiful gift that was a blessing to others, but for themselves, they felt it was too much and did as much as they could to keep themselves from suffering, while making sure others would continue to suffer greatly.
They were also both huge homophobic, racist, sexist, self serving pieces of shit.
They are the embodiment of apathy in the face of injustice
Is there a source for that?
who get sactified for it - literally in one case
Tumblr in one post. Not in a terrible way, even, just what it is. Excellent show of critical thinking applied to re-examine holy cows of our forebears, but by superexacting, anacronic standards, which don’t take into account these figures upbringing, historical background, the bloody time, place, and religion they grew up with and held dear.
Because they are held in a positive regard by general community and establishment (acritically and brushing over the less exemplary, least shiny bits of their character, you’re totally right on that), over here they don’t even qualify as “problematic”, they’re downright “pieces of shit”. Well that’s bound to get you more notes than a more nuanced analysis, granted, but still.
Personally, one thing i hate almost over anything else is black and white thinking. I find it stupid, inhuman, devoid of compassion and understanding. it’s not illuminating. It’s dumb. And it hurts most of all when it comes from people who we’d call progressives.
Seriously, if you consider these two historical figures and, after examining their lives and contributions (which you’re totally allwed, certainly welcome and encouraged to do, bc at least personally i don’t care for saints or blemishless idols) all you can say is “pieces if shit”, can’t you tell you’re missing something?
If anything, your unnecessary long winded, and unwanted response is “Tumblr in a nut shell”
My post was literally just passive venting because I’m upset that Mother Teresa, with all her bullshit became a saint, it got a few notes cause I got a few followers, and my PERSONAL post comes across your page and it’s label as “Tumblr” not obviously, “this individual person (whose a total stranger to me and has never interacted with me) was simply passively venting, and this post wasn’t meant to be a dissertation,” like it wasn’t. I didn’t write it for notes, I curse because I just really fucking love cursing. It was me venting about two people who actually are p shitty, like, ghandi called his wife a cow and p much forced her to die, compared black people to animals, and told the Jews they were better off sacrificing themselves to Hitler. Mother Teresa basically had millions in donations for her hospitals, yet her hospitals forced people to reuse needles and were only allowed asprin for pain. Like, I don’t give a shit, about upbringing or time and place. Plenty of people during that time, weren’t racist, or forcing poor children to suffer horribly, and die for their perceived god. It’s not that it’s black and white, it’s that whatever good they did wasn’t enough to outweigh the bad and these people shouldn’t be held up as some ideal, when they were both terrible people. Like, miss me with that “inhuman, devoid of compassion,” shit. Like, ghadi would have seen me as a savage, and if I was horribly suffering from disease Mother Teresa would put her hand on my head and smile joyfully at my pain. Like, how the fuck am I suppose to feel compassion for those people? Instead, I’ll feel compassion for their victims, which is why I was so angry in the first place. People died because of Mother Teresa. People suffered greatly, because of her. And now she’s a saint, and it’s bullshit.Like, I dunno if you know how the Internet works.
But when someone makes a post, it’s not “Tumblr” It’s the person. Like when posts come across your dash it’s not Tumblr, it’s a few people who agree with that post and decided to reblog it. And passively venting isn’t “Tumblr” It’s human fucking nature, just like how adding unwanted opinions to a conversation that had nothing to do with you, and never needed your input is in fact,
Human
Nature
Not a sudden radical “Tumblr” thing. Like, come on.
